A frequent question we get at Float Nashville is, "What if I’m a bigger guy/gal? Will I be able to float?"
Let me start this with a bit about me--Hi, I'm Marianne and I'm a towering 5'4" and weigh 279 pounds. I certainly qualify as a bigger gal.
Now that we have that out of the way, the answer is a resounding YES!
As long as you are shorter than seven feet (sorry, Shaq!), you're absolutely good to go. There's plenty of room side to side and, yes, ten inches of water is an adequate amount to support you. The water is dense thanks to 1,000 pounds of Epsom salt so you float just like a cork in there. In my floating experiences, I’ve never “bottomed out” in the tank.
The best part of floating, for me, is how it takes the pressure off of my joints--my ankles, my knees, my hips, my shoulders. You're not fighting gravity inside the tank so everything decompresses and relaxes in there. It really is like you're floating in outer space. It is beautiful, quiet, peaceful space where it is difficult to tell where your skin ends and the water begins. It is a break from the world even if just for a little while.
Fear sometimes keeps us from trying new things. We're here to help ease your fears and answer your questions about floating and the tanks. If you have questions, reach out--we're here to help!
Come on in, the water really is fine.
